Backpack Buddies
The Real Life Center is proud to participate in the Backpack Buddies of Fayette County Program, a vital initiative designed to support children in our community who face food insecurity.
Many of the students we serve are part of the school system’s free and reduced lunch program, which provides meals during the school week. However, these children often have limited access to food at home—especially on weekends and during school breaks.
Our Backpack Buddies program helps fill that gap by providing weekly bags of shelf-stable, easy-to-prepare foods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and fruit items. These bags are delivered directly to nine local schools, including elementary, middle, and—new this year—a high school.
To protect the dignity and privacy of the families we serve, bags are discreetly distributed by school counselors and support staff on the last day of the school week.
Through this program, we aim to provide not just food but hope and stability to children facing hardship in our community.

Summer Buddies
The Summer Buddies Program is an extension of our BackPack Buddies initiative, designed to support children in Fayette County who face food insecurity during the summer months when school is not in session.
We partner with local organizations that provide weekly lunches to students identified as at-risk. While our partners cover weekday lunches, the Real Life Center steps in to provide breakfasts, dinners, and weekend meals, ensuring children have access to nutritious food throughout the entire week.
To eliminate barriers and ensure freshness, Summer Buddies bags are delivered directly to families’ homes, reaching each child with care and dignity.
Together with our community partners, we’re working to make sure no child goes hungry—even when school is out.
